High-Density Wireless Excellence for Premium TV Broadcasting

Integration: Telmaco • Equipment Supply: Audio & Vision

Green Pixel, the premier production powerhouse managing Alpha TV’s four-studio complex in Pallini, Greece, has successfully completed a comprehensive upgrade of its wireless microphone and In-Ear Monitoring (IEM) infrastructure.

Television production at this scale leaves no room for error, as Green Pixel required a robust system capable of supporting 72 wireless channels across multiple studios. This setup demanded uninterrupted daily operation to ensure flawless performance during high-stakes live broadcasts, alongside total flexibility for the independent and simultaneous use of microphone and IEM systems throughout all station areas.

Further, the solution had to deliver superior audio quality with crystal-clear, broadcast-grade sound free from interference, all managed through an advanced, modern RF infrastructure featuring full remote-management capabilities. To meet these rigorous standards, the technical team implemented an end-to-end solution powered by Wisycom’s True Diversity Wideband RF technology.

A Networked RF Powerhouse

The heart of the upgrade consists of over 70 wireless audio channels integrated into the station’s RF racks. By networking the system via Ethernet, AES, and Dante, Green Pixel achieved real-time monitoring and control from any control room in the facility.

The installation features Wisycom MRK980 receivers, renowned for their DSP processing and multiband operation. To ensure uniform coverage across the expansive studio floors and corridors, wideband directional antennas were strategically installed in both the rigging grids and surrounding areas. This setup facilitates a seamless RF handover with no audible artifacts, which is crucial for moving talent.

For hosts and guests, the production utilizes MTP40S bodypack transmitters paired with DPA 4061 CORE lavalier microphones. This combination provides a discreet profile while maintaining a natural, transparent on-air sound. For handheld applications, the team deployed MTH400 transmitters equipped with DPA 4018 supercardioid capsules, ensuring high gain-before-feedback. The system is rounded out with Wisycom IEM solutions featuring true diversity reception and low-latency DSP, providing presenters and floor managers with robust and intelligible monitoring in the most demanding environments.

Setting a New Standard for Greek Television

The transition to Wisycom has delivered immediate operational benefits, most notably through a High-Density Linear Mode that allows for 60 simultaneous microphone channels with zero intermodulation. This technical leap ensures stable RF performance across all studios with no interference, while providing the team with full oversight through networked management and comprehensive RF monitoring.

The result is broadcast-grade clarity with no artifacts or coloration, complemented by excellent RF handover throughout all production areas. In addition, the system provides complete intelligibility and robust coverage for all wireless IEMs, all built upon a modular architecture that remains ready for future production expansions.

Antonis Stantzos, Technical Director of Alpha TV, noted that in a demanding environment with multiple simultaneous live and recorded shows, selecting this specific system provider proved to be the only choice capable of meeting their requirements. He added that the results fully justified their expectations, as one of the most advanced and complex wireless setups in Greek television now operates flawlessly.

Featured Equipment Overview

The extensive hardware list for this installation includes 30 MRK980 ultra-wideband receivers and sixty MTP40S bodypack transmitters, which are used alongside 12 MTH400 handheld transmitters equipped with DPA 4018 capsules. The audio capture is further supported by 60 DPA 4061 CORE lavalier microphones and 60 DPA SCM0013-B mounts.

For the monitoring side, the setup features six MTK952N dual transmitters for IEM, 24 MPR50-IEM true diversity receivers, and a comprehensive antenna distribution network consisting of two SPL2216 splitters, 10 LFA-B-F1 antennas, three CSA221 combiners, and several specialized units like the CSI16T/W and LBN2 antennas.
